The first time in my life that I missed my flight due to illness. This is what I learnt.

  1. I took a night flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur and arrived at 3am.
  2. Spent the next 7 hrs walking, getting to the city centre, catching up with friends and completing side quests.
  3. Already had mild flu so the term “running nose” really comes alive. Snot comes out uncontrollably especially while bowing down during prayer time.
  4. I then spent the next 4 consecutive days with a beautiful concoction of late night sleep, traveling (car, train, plane) and non stop eating.
  5. Tuesday night before I left, I went crazy with durian. I dont think I have ever ate so much durian in my life.

6. Warning – disgusting human excretion description coming ahead.

7. 3 hrs later and there I was, vomiting out all my insides which included (but not limited to) 2 plates of rice, ikan bakar, udang masak lemak…. and the durians.

8. Completed packing and all, but it was too late. The vomit might have trigger all the underlying sickness.

9. Morning of departure, I was so sore all over the body that I decided its just not worth the hassle of passing out at the airport.

10. Lesson learnt – no matter how much mentally prepared I was, when it comes to the temptation while back home ie food, family and friends, sometimes the only place our logic goes is … out the window.

Until then, stay hungry, but binging is not the answer.
