Bye Bye Facebook (?)

I deleted Facebook from my phone early June 2023. I thought I was going to miss it; turns out it was anything but.

I dreaded thinking that I would miss out on my friends birthday celebration, or what they are having for dinner, or what their kids are doing at school, or where they are going on holiday.
Or maybe the political issue they are vehemently debating on.

For some reason that wasn’t the case.

Just for the sake of it, I tried logging into Facebook from my laptop late June; just to see what I might have missed. I felt slightly nauseated, if not annoyed. Nothing exciting, just the same stories that I didn’t really crave anymore.

It’s July; every now and then I will install Facebook, put some updates or photos, reply to some comments and then uninstall it again.

I also noticed that my phone battery last longer. My job requires me to be on the road from time to time, and nothing worries me more than a dead phone when your boss cannot contact you or if you are stuck in an unfamiliar area without Google Maps on. It shows how dependent I am (most of us are) to my phone. (Yes, I’m just too lazy to carry a power bank).

I read before on how some busy people kept their social media presence alive without getting stuck scrolling their phone – they use social media automation. My style (install/uninstall) might be the poor man’s version.

So when was the last time you left your house without taking your phone?
